Illume (SHAREit) Intermittent Network-wide Outages
March 5th, 2026: Some libraries are reporting extended outages starting at approximately 9am and 11am and lasting for approximately an hour each time, while other libraries only experienced slow-downs and can still access SHAREit. Please feel free to report your outage dates/times directly to Illume Support <support@illumebc.ca> and please provide a Traceroute diagnostic test if possible. March 4th, 2026: Starting at 2:45pm, SFU experienced ramped up DDOS attacks that made the Illume (SHAREit), ArcaBC, SFU.ca and our SFU/BC ELN email inaccessible. SFU IT restored services at 3pm today but outages may continue to be intermittent for the rest of the day. If your Illume site outage started earlier or was for a longer period please let us know via email so we can troubleshoot further together! |
Our host site Simon Fraser University has been experiencing intermittent network outages the past couple weeks due to Denial of Service attacks.
The periodic wide-spread DDOS attacks have resulted in network slowness and interruptions for all SFU servers and services including Illume (SHAREit), ArcaBC, SFU.ca and our SFU/BC ELN email.
SFU IT is working on mitigating the issues and restoring services as soon as possible. When outages occur we recommend taking a short break from trying to access Illume and instead try again in 5-10 minutes in order to reduce the immediate load on SFU servers. Usually the outages are minor, lasting less than 5 minutes, and are often in late afternoon or early evening.
If the outage lasts longer than 15-30 minutes, please feel free to call the emergency mobile (1-236-880-1287) to report the issues especially if the Illume Support centre is closed.
We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide further information when it becomes available. And SFU IT exploring all options to restore network stability soon!
